Additional Online Sale Information
Are there limits to what I can purchase for some species? Not for the Summer Blooms sale. However, if something is sold out, you will see a "sold out" sign over the plant's photo.
Is there sales tax? Yes, an 8.5% sales tax is added to all plant material you purchase. Raffle tickets are exempt from sales tax.
Will I be charged a credit card processing fee? That depends on your generous sprit! When you check out there is an option for you to cover the credit card processing fee. Covering the fee is not mandatory, but we hope you will because this is a fundraiser and that just means more funds go towards conservation, nature education and recreation in the Will County forest preserves.
What will the transaction look like on my credit card statement? Look for FC*SUMMERBLOOMS2022 on your statement.
Is the online store timed? Kind of. There is a timer that begins at 20 minutes and ticks down as you shop. If the timer runs out, you will have the option to add additional time. You will not be timed out.
Will you restock? We will monitor inventory during the sale and will attempt to restock only individual species in the 3 plant packs. Once the native plant collections are sold out, we will not restock those collections. However, you may create your own customized collection using the 3 plant packs.
Will I get what I ordered? We work hard to ensure that we can fulfill each and every order. However, nature is unpredictable and there is always the possibility of something unexpected occurring that is beyond our control. If there are any issues with your order prior to order pickup, we will contact you right away via email or phone. If you purchase collections, we do reserve the right to make appropriate substitutions in each collection, but only if necessary.
Will you backorder items if they are delayed? We will not be placing plants on back-order this year. If we are not able to fulfill your order, you will automatically receive a refund for that particular plant material.
What if I don't like my plants when I pick them up? If you are dissatisfied with your order when you pick it up, you can ask for a partial or full refund at that time. Refunds will not be issued once you accept your order at pickup.

Plug Information: Whether you are purchasing a collection or individual species in a 3 plant pack, almost every species will come in a plug that is 2.25" wide and 5" deep. There are just a few species that are grown in containers that are 2.63" wide x 3.5" deep. These are noted in the online store item descriptions for those particular plants. Plugs are ready for planting and typically establish in 6-8 weeks. Plugs are produced from seed to protect genetic diversity and ensure overall plant hardiness. Plugs are neonicotinoid-free, are grown under conditions that closely mimic nature, and acclimate smoothly to site conditions.
Tree & Shrub Information: Trees and shrubs will be offered in a variety of sizes. Shrubs come in 1- and 2-gallon containers. One-gallon containers are approximately 6.5" in diameter and 7" tall. Two-gallon containers are approximately 8.75" in diameter and 8.5" tall. Trees come in 1.5-gallon tree pots that are generally 8" tall and 5" across. Please note dimensions are approximations.
We've added a few native trees and shrubs! We are partnering with a local, Mokena-based grower, Native Roots & Canopies Nursery to provide a selection of native trees and shrubs ideal for use in the home landscape. The nursery specializes in woody plant species with an emphasis on edible trees and shrubs for pollinator gardens, native restorations, permaculture, food forests, and agroforestry. Stock available for purchase online is limited, but don’t worry. Native Roots & Canopies Nursery will be at the Spring Pop-Up sale on May 21 and 22 with additional stock for purchase.
The Bringing Nature Home Spring Raffle kicks off at noon on Friday, April 1 and runs until 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, 2022. This raffle is just one of the ways we raise money for the Forest Preserve's conservation, education and recreation programs and initiatives. This year's raffle features native plant collections and two winners will be drawn for each collection. Visit the Collection Preview for detailed information about each collection.

SPACING & COVERAGE
As you plan your garden and select your plants, it's helpful to know how much area you have to fill. You'll need to have a general idea of the square footage of your planting bed or area. The plant spacing is really up to you, but don't underplant. Using too few plants in your native garden creates opportunity for other plants like dandelions to move in. Tightly spacing your native plants allows the plants to cover the soil surface and provide support to each other. Generally, you can plan on spacing your plugs between 12' and 8' apart depending on the plant density you are trying to achieve.
For example, if you have approximately 10 square feet of space to fill, planting on 12" centers will require 10 plugs. If you would like to create a more dense planting, then planting on an 8" or 9" center would give you that density. But, it requires more plants; 18 plugs if planting on a 9" center and 23 if your center is 8". You have choices but this table gives you a quick idea of how many plants you may want to order depending on the space you have and the look you are trying to achieve.
